RedBallShock Studies

Medical Hyperspectral Imaging System detects changes in oxygenated hemoglobin and deoxyginated hemoglobin that indicate variations in oxygen delivery and oxygen extraction. A blood loss can be detected via assessing the total hemoglobin (sum of oxygenated and deoxyginated hemoglobin) value in the tissue.

We have performed a number of studies on animals and people to understand the relationship between skin microcirculatory anatomy and regional blood flow heterogeneity. The results are presented at the conferences and published in Journal of Trauma, 2006.
