RedBallBubbles ruled by Surface Tension.

Bubbles How to determine the shape of B-grain growing in the A-phase matrix? - the question came about when we were investigating the solid-solid phase transformations. When a new-phase grain grows in an old-phase matrix, the internal stresses develop. They are amplified significantly if an external deviatoric stress is present. They also vary depending on the grain-geometry.

We were estimating the magnitude of the transformational superplasticity of the creeping mantle material.

One of the approaches I considered was to investigate the shape of droplets in the media with different coefficient of the surface tension . The problem appears to be very neat and allows an analytical solution that can be significantly simplified with application of geometry. (I love the geometrical solutions!!)

The critical parameter of the problem is the portion of an A-A border length relative to the total length of the contact line. I call it 'A-A border strength' - vertical axis in the picture. The percentage of B-grain area from the total area changes in horizontal dimension.
